Anfernee Simons was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers with the 24th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. At the time, Portland Trail Blazers (former) General Manager Neil Olshey received a lot of criticism for picking a young unproven guard that was coming from the IMG Academy. Since then though, Simons has grown tremendously under guards like Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum. His potential is through the roof, and he’s just getting started:
Young and Starting
This last week without Damian Lillard or CJ McCollum in the lineup, Simons has shown us all that he can help a team win games and he’s still just 22 years old. In case you were living under a rock and missed what he did, it’s right here below:
Decided to include a few highlights as well:
Simons not only made some incredible shots for Portland but lead them to a win over the Brooklyn Nets. Meanwhile doing all of this in light of his grandpa passing away. Simons didn’t play against the Nuggets due to personal reasons, but when he came back against the Wizards, he didn’t miss a beat. Ant quickly let everyone know that he was back and that he still had his rhythm. He scored 26 points, on 64% FG, 7/10 3 PM to go with 6 assists in the first half.
Can Ant Continue?
Before this season, fans were doubting Simons’s ability to be a playmaker and a point guard, though with his most recent play he is proving those doubters wrong. In the Month of January, Anfernee Simons has been as hot as any player in the NBA.
We’ve seen Simons have a big game before, in fact, the last time was the last game of the season in 2019. We have never seen something quite like this but he’s continuing to do it which is nice to see. Based on there is some uncertainty on how long he can keep at the pace, but either way, it is the beginning of a great career for Anfernee Simons. Damian Lillard will continue to be out so we may see more of it from Simons.
