With Antonio Brown being recently released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, rumors have been swirling about Antonio Brown teaming up with Lamar Jackson in Baltimore. This is not the first time that these rumors have been active.
History of the AB-Baltimore Connection
Recently, Antonio Brown was a guest on the “I Am Athlete” podcast. He was asked what quarterback he would like to play for next and immediately responded with “Lamar Jackson”. A few hours later, Lamar retweeted a video of AB saying he wanted Lamar as his quarterback.
Back in 2020 was when the initial AB to Baltimore rumors started. A video surfaced around April 2020 that showed Lamar Jackson, Antonio Brown, and Marquise “Hollywood” Brown (who happens to be Antonio Brown’s cousin) working out together. Additionally, On January 25th, 2022, AB tweeted a picture of himself in a Baltimore Ravens uniform. It seems as if he is trying to manifest himself into purple and gold.
The years of rumors, family ties, and the desire to play with Lamar Jackson, all point towards the Ravens being the next stop for Antonio Brown.
The Potential Fit
From a pure football perspective, adding Antonio Brown to a healthy Ravens offense spells trouble for the rest of the league. When he has played the past two seasons, AB has continued to produced at an elite level. In his past 15 games, he has tallied 87 catches, 1,028 yards, and 8 touchdowns. Picture the Raven’s offense trotting onto the field with Lamar Jackson, J.K. Dobbins, “Hollywood” Brown, Rashod Bateman, Mark Andrews, and Antonio Brown. They would have top-tier talent across the board, making their offense one of the best in the NFL.
Antonio Brown has had numerous off-the-field antics that have led him to be a part of four NFL franchises in as many years. He has gone through legal issues, suspensions, helmet issues, publicly fighting with team management, lawsuits, fake vaccination cards, and running off the field mid-game.
The Ravens also already have a lot of young talent that they have been grooming for years. Along with the big-time players previously mentioned, the Ravens have been invested in receivers such as Devin Duvernay, James Proche, Sammy Watkins, and Tylan Wallace. Adding a talent such as AB means these receivers will be less involved.
Taking everything into consideration, it seems unlikely that the Ravens pull the trigger, and make a move for AB. They have had two years already to potentially sign him, they already have lots of talent, and there is a growing list of personal concerns. However, if they make a move, and if it works out, Brown could aid the Ravens in becoming the NFL’s deadliest offense.
